Sound Transit – Future Construction Plans in a Tight Economy

Sound Transit recently announced plans to move ahead with the design of the North Link and South 200^th Street projects.  Since tax revenues are lagging due to the recession, there is a projected $3.9 billion revenue shortfall in the 15-year Sound Transit 2 Plan.  This will affect the timing for some of the other construction projects that are a part of Sound Transit’s program to expand light rail service. 

Please join us to hear Sound Transit’s plans for future construction in this tight economy.  We are pleased to have Don Davis, Deputy Executive Director for Project Management and Construction Management with Sound Transit.  Don has been working on large infrastructure projects in the Puget Sound region for over 30 years.  Don worked for Metro/King County, creating their first project controls group and managing projects for their first billion dollar capital program. He was Project Director for the Harborview Hospital west wing expansion from 1993 to 1998.  Following Harborview, Don left King County and worked for a number of consulting firms, primarily involved in construction management on large infrastructure projects in this area.  Just over a year ago, he returned to the public sector.

One of Don’s jobs as Deputy Executive Director is to oversee construction management efforts for all work on Sound Transit’s ST2 program that was approved by the voters in 2008.  This is a 15 year program will ultimately cost about $14 billion.  Don will tell us more about this program – the projects that Sound Transit will be undertaking, the timing of those projects and the opportunities that will be available for construction managers.
